Working In Recruitment

How about a career shaping other people’s careers? Many people working in recruitment fell into the sector by accident, but a career in recruitment can be really rewarding and an increasing number of grads seem to be considering a job in the industry straight out of university.

The success of any company depends on them having the right and best people, and that’s where recruitment comes in. Recruiters have to identify what skills and personality are required in a job, find people who fulfill those requirements (either by advertising, or analysing CVs they have on file, or head hunting), interview and assess candidates, and decide who is best for the job. If they work in-house they’ll have to make the final decision of who to hire. If they work in an agency they will have to convince their client they’ve found the ideal candidate, and then act as the middle man as the candidate and employer negotiate terms.

If this is sounding interesting already then read on. Find out how the sector works, how recruitment differs depending on the level of the jobs you’re filling, and what skills you’ll need to succeed in this sector.
