Mary MacDonald

Biography

Mary was part of the team who launched Unicorn Jobs, helping set up our Unicorn House HQ, all the operations of the company, and liaising with our student contributors and college contacts. While on the team she wrote for the website, in particular on working in the music business.

Mary made her first forays into music and event production while studying for a BA in Cultural Studies at Montreal’s McGill University. She helped develop, promote and produce an extremely successful cabaret club night, working closely alongside business partners DKD Universal, Aquarius Records and Greenland Promotions on marketing and A&R. In between university coursework and production duties for the club and its spin-offs, Mary also contributed to Vice magazine and Montreal weeklies, the Hour and the Mirror.

Relocating to London after graduation, Mary continued to contribute to several publications whilst working on promotions for a number of club nights before assuming the role of Editorial Associate for music industry news service CMU. At the same time, she became a Project Director for music and media marketing and production company BigTime.tv, liaising with record labels, artists and management on projects ranging from promotional covermounts, to launching digital platforms to an award winning multi-media exhibition celebrating the iconicity of the electric guitar.

Since leaving the Unicorn Jobs team, she has become General Manager of music consultancy Music Concierge.
